Following on from the Grammy nominated project with Lee Scratch Perry, Rolling Lion Studio label boss and producer Daniel Boyle put together a group of rmusicians for his new project and label Nu Roots. Recording at the legendary KONK Studios in North London, owned and built by Ray & Dave Davies of the seminal UK rock and roll band The Kinks, utilising the Neve desk and analog equipment that previously recorded The Stone Roses, Elvis Costello, Franz Ferdinand and Blur, and featuring on bass the dubfather of UK reggae Dennis "Blackbeard Bovell", guitarist and all round music maestro Hughie Izachaar, and a trio from the renowned London reggae/dub outfit The Drop, Ed West on drums, Leon King on guitar and Ryan Standford on keys.
In early 2014 I was commissioned to shoot the final fitting out and launch of the 48m sailing yacht WISP in The Netherlands. Designed by Andre Hoek of Hoek Design, currently one of the world’s top marine architects (and the hand behind a number of the latest incarnations of the legendary J Class boats, including Lionheart and Svea) and built by Royal Huisman, one of Europe’s most prestigious ship yards in Vollenhove Holland, hull number “393” is the epitome of timeless classic yacht design.
With her elegant sheer line, two sleek deckhouses, raked bow and cutter rigged sail plan, Wisp looks every bit the traditional classic yacht, all be it writ large, but don’t let that nod to the past fool you. Underneath that revivalist exterior and luxurious bespoke golden oak and dark wenge wood interior from Rhoades Young Design, lies some of the most forward looking technical innovation available on the market today. With a 57.5m carbon composite mast and spars designed by Rondal, EC6 + Carbo-Link hybrid rigging with enhanced computerized sail handling systems, designed for both ease of use and top performance when needed, Wisp is very much both the supremely comfortable cruising yacht, and the Gentleman’s racing thoroughbred.- Nick Caro
